When my landlord did not return my security deposit, I sued in small claims court and won. The small claims process took time and effort, and what I didn’t anticipate was a lot of emotional energy.

To my surprise, winning a judgement doesn’t ensure payment. I was on my own to collect the judgement from the landlord. Calls to the court for direction on how to collect only lead to more confusion. Plus, frankly, I was emotionally spent from the small claims process.
